Although I won’t be there in person this year, I’m grateful to still be included in Archipelago, a gathering that highlights the work and stories of artists from all backgrounds. It’s an event I value deeply—one that brings together creativity, connection, and personal journeys.
This year, I shared a short video about my path to becoming an artist after a life-changing injury, as well as two books that reflect that story:
Soldier, Sister, Savant is a memoir I co-wrote with Wilma Davidson about my experience as a disabled veteran who unexpectedly gained artistic abilities after a traumatic brain injury.
Super Cat! Splat! Splat! is a children’s book we created together. I illustrated it using digital tools and AI. It’s about a brave and hopeful cat inspired by my own journey—and maybe a little bit by my cat, Max.
Even though I’m attending virtually, I’m proud to share my work and be part of this creative community. Thank you to the Archipelago team for making space for all kinds of voices—even when we can’t be in the room.
